Past, present, or future–which “time zone” do you live in? What do you focus on during your day? Are you present and centered in the Now or are you spending most of your day focused on the past or the future? The past isn’t occurring in this moment; likewise, the future hasn’t occurred, yet a majority of us spend our days not truly present in the moment as it is happening. When you catch yourself reliving the past or projecting into the future, stop yourself and ask yourself why you are not present. Ask yourself if the thoughts you had just been thinking were empowering you and enhancing your life. If they aren’t, consciously change them by bringing your focus back to the present.
Past, Present, or Future–Which One Do You Live In?
Our minds can quickly turn to thoughts about the past and future, but unfortunately they take us away from the present moment. We miss out on so much by trying to control things in our minds or go over something that is not occurring.
Children are wonderful examples of being in the moment. They don’t carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, they live in the Now. For example, let’s take a one year old child. When they learn how to walk, they don’t go over the many difficulties and challenges they’ve had trying to take one step after another. And they don’t future project and plan out how they are going to learn to walk. They just do it.
Today when you are out there living your life, make a conscious effort to pull yourself back to the present moment whenever you find yourself in the past or future. Be present to those around you, especially to yourself.
